this is so beautiful gayle. i wish i could some day take a look in your garden. i have read that its very tough to maintain orchids.

never tried them myself. but my elder brother once planted a few, the plants survived without flower.

  It’s not so tough to grow them. I do give them an orchid fertilizer now and then but mostly they just hang outside and I give them drinks of water regularly. I think they thrive on the humidity in Florida. I bring them indoors when the temps go down below 50 degrees.
  
  The plant that is in the photo had been neglected for awhile and it did take some time before it started flowering again.

    i never tried orchid myself, but as you said, those special fertilizers were the last thing which crossed his mind.
    
    i have seen him using bone dust and other stuffs but never saw him trying something spl for them.
    
    i myself was more happy with roses, jasmines, harsingars and seasonal flowers 🙂

    My orchids were gifts to me and that is how I became involved with growing them. So far, they have been very easy to take care of. I just use the commercially made orchid food and they seem to do very well.

    Well maybe someday you’ll be interested in some gardening and could give one a try. If orchids are sold there, I would assume that the food needed for them would be too.

    its no use gardening in rented houses, first there is no space, second they are deprived of sunshine, third you will have to either leave them behind or carry the pots whenever you change the house…..

    I garden in my rented house and just gather the pots of plants up if I happen to move. Some of my plants have been with me for over 20 years–I haul them with me wherever I go.
    
    I do have limited space but plenty of sunshine here for them to grow. Our landlady even gave us an allowance to buy some plants and spruce up her space here. We were happy to plant them and care for them.

    well, both times i left burdwan i had to leave all the plants behind. in kolkata human beings dont get enough sunlight in their homes forget about plants 🙂
    
    joking. its been with us in three of our four rented houses- no open space where we can keep plants.

    I’ve been fortunate to have somewhere to keep my plants wherever I have moved. Plants are very important to me–they add so much joy to my life. 🙂

  The three orchids that I own were all gifts and I have managed to keep them all alive and thriving in spite of knowing nothing about orchids. Maybe it’s best that way. 🙂 Anyway, I’m glad you enjoyed this photo again–thanks for looking.
