Heart Broken

CRACK! and I’m hit
without warning
on the side of my head
and the barb
enters my deaf
ear.  It ricochets
around deep
inside my head
and jiggles
the adrenaline
A surge hits
my heart and
it flips, twirls
and somersaults,
the mitral valve
spitting and
My throat tightens
to keep my voice
silent…to hold
back the tears.
The heart
continues its
wild dance and I
wonder, is this
going to be
Finally with
the rhythm unable
to right itself,
I’m taken out,
just like that.
Heart broken

Small Stone # 10

Leaden heart
Tightness in throat
Grief still with me
We need to talk

Small Stone # 6

Hearing is failing.
I couldn’t hear her.
Mortified, embarrassed
ashamed, feeling
deeply separate;
hot tears fell
as I shared
with a friend.

I’m projecting fear…

Blissful Sadness

A Silhouette of Sadness

A Silhouette of Sadness (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

New mothering
brought me joy.
Blissful willingness
I gave of myself.
Nothing perturbed
or was too much
to tend to this babe
that I had birthed.
She was my first,
perfect and sweet,
a child of peace,
her soul so deep.
A bond grew tight
with her at my breast,
exchanging love,
trust, and light.
But you never called,
you didn’t reach out,
you kept yourself(ish)
hidden from our life.
Your granddaughter
was here…not so
far away, but you
made no attempt
to join with us.
I should have
been prepared,
because this is
who you are…
but it would have
been nice to have
felt your presence.

Sadness… An Announcement

I feel sadness today as I must let you all know that yesterday my daughter  suffered a miscarriage.  Her doctor was lovingly supportive of her as he told her that it is a common occurrence and for her not to worry that she won’t be able to carry a pregnancy to term in the future.  Even though our family is encouraged by his words, we are saddened that she and her husband have to go through this feeling of loss.

I appreciated the happiness that was shared with me as I looked forward to being a grandmother and I still have the hope that that will be the case someday–when the time comes.

Tossing and turning

in the lingering mugginess of a summer’s night,

sleep is elusive.

Positioning myself in the moonbeam pattern of light

playing across the bed,

I somehow now seem cooler there.

Staring out through the window, far up into the sky,

I search for comfort, a savior–

there is none where I rest.

The loneliness gathers me up

and embraces me fully–

sorrow catches in my throat

as I muffle my sobs.

Dear God, where are you–

my prayer beseeches.

I’m lonely, so alone,

no one sees me…
