Always a Hippie

Once a hippie, always a hippie

love beads long gone but not

the love.  Flower child transformed

to flower-powered adult who still

on occasion will have a toke and

lose herself in a plume

of ganja smoke and the groove

of those free-spirited 60s.

  1. The only thing missing from the 60s is the beads? Nicely done.

  2. Love this! Especially:
“love beads long gone but not

    the love.”

And I, too, am “flower-powered.” And trees. And lakes, too. 😉

  3. Love that flashback to the hippie free spirited 60s. Hope all is well !!!

  4. I like this so much:
    “lose herself in a plume
    of ganja smoke”
Now if that’s not groovy I don’t know what is 🙂

Those free-spirited 60s just never let go!

  6. Far out work, Sister!
    Count me in!

  7. “lose herself in a plume

of ganja smoke” is especially groovy! Ah, those hippie days!

  8. Oh, dear, Gayle. Your poem brought song to my ears. Specifically,

    “‘Cause he’s an old hippie
And he don’t know what to do
Should he hang on to the old
Should he grab on to the new
    He’s an old hippie
This new life is just a bust
He ain’t trying to change nobody
He’s just trying real hard to adjust” — (Old Hippie by The Bellamy Brothers)

    Very well done.

  9. Gonna share some of that plume with me? …. well penned / totally groovy.

  10. Oh.. sounds wonderful… I missed that era… for me it was the opposite with yuppie ideals.

  11. Love this person revealed here! Love on the mind and an occasional plume of ganja smoke….this makes me smile. This is a mellow person 🙂

  12. Love this poem, Gayle. Sometimes it is simply too difficult to extricate ourselves from the past. Hope you are doing well.

    • Thanks, Renee! You are right about the difficulty of leaving the past behind. Sometimes to our detriment. I’m doing okay. I actually sent you a birthday text but I may have used the wrong number. I think I had a couple for you and may have mixed them up. But I hope you had a nice day. I celebrated mine on the 5th…not too far behind yours.

      • Hi Gayle, No, I did not receive the text but no worries. Maybe someone else got an ‘unbirthday’ day…as it were. I have the same number but you may have transposed a couple of numbers. No worries. Good to hear from you. I have not called because my life has been a bit of a roller coaster lately. When the dust settles I will certainly call you. Do take good care.

        • I don’t know what happened to your correct number. I just used the one that I had for you that was in my phone. Oh well, when you next call, I’ll make sure that I enter it in. I know that you were moving so no worries. Please take care out there in the world, Renee! xoxo

  13. Gayle, to me it feels like we could indeed use some of that 60’s mentality that you so beautifully capture.
