Poetical Contender

A thought inspired gives birth to form
Images follow and the pen begins to quiver
Writing flows forth with rhyming transform
Sonnet, villanelle or a couplet sliver

A need for expression with lyrical feel
Profound emotions in succinct detail
Straight from the heart it emerges real
From strong and savage to delicate and frail

Well-chosen words describe topic best
Without superfluous syllables making a mess
Supportive of getting things off of my chest
Of politics, beliefs and myriad thoughts of distress

Accommodating too of my love of earth’s scenery
Words take their places for describing its splendor
And of love, hate, death…life, growing and greenery
Endless, limitless…I’m a poetical contender

Left unfrozen upon the

Inner Child

Tossing and turning

in the lingering mugginess of a summer’s night,

sleep is elusive.

Positioning myself in the moonbeam pattern of light

playing across the bed,

I somehow now seem cooler there.

Staring out through the window, far up into the sky,

I search for comfort, a savior–

there is none where I rest.

The loneliness gathers me up

and embraces me fully–

sorrow catches in my throat

as I muffle my sobs.

Dear God, where are you–

my prayer beseeches.

I’m lonely, so alone,

no one sees me…

TAPPING INTO THE SOURCE

Yogi-posture, ramrod straight,

legs crossed in yin-yang shape.

Hands held gently at rest on the knees,

while fingers posed in mudras

help to focus energies.

Eyes closed softly,

attention on the breath,

allowing it freely to tap into the source.

Follow the breath,

it will show you the way,

the truth lies within you

beyond this illusory play.

Step by Step…

Step by step I journey through this life,

climbing countless and steep mountains

of one foot after the other.

Only to stumble and go tumbling down

to come to the place of where I now rest.

Go on, go on,

keep up, keep up!

No matter the deep, depressive darkness

that may envelop me,

or the brilliant light of peaceful knowing,

I am be-coming…

one

step

at

a

time,

at the perfect pace.
