Intersecting Lives

Two women’s
lives intersect as
their life journey
connects them online
through their writing.
I admire her quilting,
her husband’s
talent with embroidery
and posted photos of
her surrounding
landscape.
When I learn that
she has unexpectedly
passed away, my
heart misses a beat.

Join us at dVerse Poets as Grace presents an interview with one of our beloved co-founders, Brian Miller, for our 5th anniversary celebration this week.  We are also writing a Quadrille today…click on the link for details.

  1. It’s funny how our lives intersect through online blogging though we haven’t met face to face. A lovely tribute to Viv Gayle. Thanks for being part of our celebration.

    • Our online connections are very real. Some we get to know better than others but everyone who has been a part of our group for as long as Viv has…well, we grow quite accustomed to them. It’s my pleasure to be here for dVerse’s celebration.

  2. The friends we make online–because it’s poetry, I believe we get to know each other at such a deep level. Perhaps, even, deeper than the friends we golf with or dine with or…

    • You may be right about that, Victoria. You share things in your writing that you would never be able to put into words with our day to day friends. I know what you mean.

  3. What a truly lovely poem and tribute. We have so many tributes to Viv in our own unique way. She would have loved them all.

  4. Viv was a great writer and person. I’m sure she is honored to have all these memorials of her life. I didn’t know her husband did embroidery. That’s cool, thanks

    • Yes, she sure was. I hope somehow she can perceive all the outpouring of love on her behalf. You should go have a look at Viv’s blog and see the photos of her husband’s talent. It’s truly amazing. You’re welcome!

  9. You’re so right: it’s more than ships passing in the dark, because we share our innermost thoughts and fears and hopes through our poetry. I was really shocked too by Viv’s death, and this is a beautiful reminder of her.

    • I think we share more so here than with some of our closest so-called “real” friends and family members. The suddenness of it was a shock. I’m glad she didn’t linger ill for a long while before passing on…and thank you very much.

  10. So true.. .and the few times I have met people in real life, it has just confirmed that I sometimes know my online friends better than many that I meet every day…

    • I’ve yet to meet anyone in real life but have spoken on the phone and emailed quite a bit. Yes, I’ve grown very close with several people.

  11. Yes. To know someone only through words on a screen, photos on a screen…..and yet those give us glimpses into the wonder, friendliness, talent, and essence of the person — not as much I’m certain as if we knew this person by seeing her every day. But I wonder — some of her acquaintances who perhaps had coffee with her, met her in the store aisles, but did not read her words….perhaps we had a very intimate glimpse into Viv even though only online.

  12. Nice. It’s amazing how lives intersect on-line. We do get to know each other on the inside. Others may only see our external masks.

    • Thank you, Myrna. True, we don’t often open up to friends or family like we do with our online writing friends. Quite a different type of relationship…very rewarding.

  13. dVerse is a place where I have gained many friends…none of whom I have ever seen face to face, but they are friends none the less. My heart missed a beat, too, when I heard of Viv’s passing.

  16. Our words reveal so much about ourselves and truly create connections, perhaps even more meaningful than some of the ones we form in person. This is a lovely tribute to a lovely lady.

  19. Yes! Your poem states just what I felt. It’s yours, of course; but of a quality that asks some of us to join in.
