I open the screen door to the porch and make my way toward their back door. Sometimes I’ll see Dad in the doorway as he puts the finishing touches on my daughter’s coffee that she takes with her to work. Many times I see no one until I step inside and look to my right and there I find the small child that delights my heart sitting on the sofa with her iPad on her lap. Still in her “jammies”, she barely glances at me until I engage her with questions about the story she’s engrossed in. “Mira, are you watching that three little pigs and the big, bad wolf video again?”

/ June 6, 2016We have 7 grandchildren now, & we kept two of them under five over night this week end. We have a park nearby, & they got to play on the zip line. I do feel sorry for those few that do not experience the joy of grandparenting.

Youngsters these days can’t wait to start ‘clicking’ during their waking hours. As long as nothing untoward it can be allowed. Rightly so Gayle!

But I was touched by your poem about the monotony of preparing packed lunches for your boys. I think it’s called love when you do all those day-to-day activities (that can sometimes make our brains go numb) in spite of being bored silly. Your tears were very touching…

/ June 9, 2016I made a tiny pond here too and go check on the residents everyday! The plop and Basho is now synonymous! 🙂 I’ll admit to having a terrifying moment for the sake of the child reading the piggies and the wolf story. Could’ve been ominous. The haiku reassured me. 🙂

/ June 9, 2016Ponds are so charming. A neighbor has invited Mira and I to visit her pond to feed the fish and turtles whenever we want. It’s one of our “adventures” that we like to go on. That particular video about the three little pigs is pretty tame, Petru. Mira’s parents (and me too) are careful to not let her watch things that may be too scary. I’m glad the haiku calmed you. 🙂

/ June 8, 2016I’ve discovered that there is nothing ordinary about any moment when you are fully present and notice it as if it was the first time ever. It’s not easy to sustain that wonderment, but if I can remember to “forget and just be the wide-eyed observer” one or two moments a day, something about my whole disposition changes for quite a long time.
Lovely writing, as always, Gayle!

/ June 8, 2016That wonderment is easier to capture when you have a small child to share the moment with for sure. I like your description of the “wide-eyed observer”, Lorna. I still can get pretty wide-eyed at times especially around nature.
And thanks so much, Lorna!
