The Biggest Oil Spill You’ve Never Heard Of

In 2004 after Hurricane Ivan struck,
20 wells from an offshore platform
in the Gulf of Mexico owned by Taylor Energy
began leaking and has been spilling forth
oil ever since. This oil leak has been kept
secret from the public for 12 years.

Come join us as De hosts our Quadrille Monday over at dVerse Poets Pub where we write an entire poem in exactly 44 words using the word ‘spill.’

  4. While Americans went on very happy that their energy cost was low. Some coastal folks and a few birds got hurt — but they always return. Or so we soothe ourselves.

  13. That is horrible and so easy to believe! These companies pull the wool over our eyes constantly and natural disasters are something they don’t plan well for or clean up after. After leaking for that long one can only be horrified at what it’s done to nature that can never be undone. So sorry to hear Gayle.

  18. It’s my understanding that the company has gone out of business as of 2008 and because it was a “natural disaster” that caused the leak, they had no intention of trying to fix it and I guess no one else does either. The article I read said it could leak for a hundred years or until the oil is depleted…isn’t that just great?!

  19. The ills of corporate greed at the expense of the ordinary folks. Funny enough there is not much guilt to find the right solutions.
