/ February 25, 2011I’ve never been to California, but I’ve often seen the photos of smog. Don’t hey have a bunch of wind turbines around there? Why doesn’t the wind blow that smog clear into the Midwest?

Yeah, it’s pretty intense there isn’t it? Thanks, Mike. 🙂

/ February 25, 2011To answer your question Mike (as a LA-born girl back in the days when LA didn’t have smog) the wind turbines are out here in the Coachella Valley. Mountains surround Los Angeles and the inversion factor traps in all the polutants (it’s like a bowl) and the mountains keep the smog from getting out here. We have the same issue in Reno because of the Sierra Nevada but because of wind and lower population, it doesn’t even begin to compare. My science may not be right on target, but that’s what it’s like.
Your haiku says it all, Gayle.

/ February 25, 2011I found this to have a little tongue in cheeck sound to it. I was smiling. There can be humor in tragedy. I have a sister who lives in California. Last time I visited I could barely see the sky. It was depressing. Very nice take, Gayle.

/ February 25, 2011I’ve never been out there but have heard from my two brothers how bad it is. One brother moved to New Mexico to escape the bad air several years ago.
That’s pretty serious–not healthy to live in that environment.
Thanks, Isadora! xoxo

/ February 27, 2011There is a large city in the state of California called Los Angeles. You may have heard of it–but the translation of it means “City of Angels”. That’s what I was writing about. There is a large amount of smoggy air in that city–that’s an actual photo of it.
Thanks for your comments, Olivia.
