Demanding Cursor

That cursor blinking,
blinking, blinking,
a demand to write
something. It’s up to me
to appease this beast.

I think it’s patient
though, it will
keep blinking
if I let it.

Remembering a time
when my mind opened fully,
my stories wrote themselves.

Victoria is our host at dVerse for our Quadrille prompt today.  Head over there to read her presentation for all the details!

  1. That is so what I experienced today–writing was painful for some reason and I think that’s just part of the seasons of a writer’s life.

    • I guess it goes with the territory, Victoria…so many of us suffer through it. Thanks for sparking a little creativity with your great prompt. xo

  2. Oh, I remember such a time, as well…and ache to be back there. Love this, Gayle.

  3. LOL! Yes, we all go through this. Most of us more than a few times. Very good. Relevant!

  4. But at least we are still writing!!!!! And the words do still come…….would be scary if the blank page stayed white. Ack!

    • You’re right, Sherry! I think you’re ahead of me in the writing game of late but I’m still managing to get something down on paper now and then. Ack is right!

  5. Most days they still write themselves.. but if i don’t have a keyboard in front of me… it’s empty… (maybe it’s that blinking cursor)… BTW I couldn’t find you in the linkup…

    • Bjorn, I’m so preoccupied lately that I forgot to link my poem! I set it to automatically publish on Monday and then totally forgot to link it. Just noticed it after I returned from visiting my mother this evening.

  7. !I think it’s ironic that when we feel we cannot write, we still do….or perhaps scary! We are poets but we are also human…our words grow from our hearts and experiences. Sometimes we just need time to catch up.

  8. I could relate to this one.
    Out, damned cursor!

  9. Make like it’s ‘white noise’ albeit a cursor. 🙂

Ha, the modern variation on that demanding blank page.

  11. You just have to keep writing! We’ve all been there…
