Erroneous Belief

Not much instruction,
mostly unlearning,
the ideas heaped upon
by those well meaning.
Our parents first,
teachers came second,
then society and media
bombarding us,
molding, firing our
brains, senses overloading
from repeating the same.

Still and quiet yourself,
listen within…does that
notion sit well or is it
unsettling or grim.
Whatever you feel
that is joy-filled and bliss,
keep your attention on that
and expand with finesse.
Pay attention to your thoughts,
the good ones think more,
the negative and draining,
leave at the door.

In this way, we can train
that repetitious thinking,
those ideas thrust upon
us that transport us to sinking.
We don’t need to embrace
those things that we find
that interlock us so tight
and leave us confined.
Mankind will feel happier,
open and free if can let go
of misconceptions of
erroneous belief.

Karin Gustafson, Manicddaily, is our hostess at dVerse illustrating repetition with her charming drawings. She invites us to write on repetition…however our lives are guided or hindered by such.

  1. So much truth in this, Gayle, and nicely done.

  2. We are force fed such erroneous belief combined with a lot of truth…Separating the wheat from the chaff is the trick and the challenge.

  3. I totally agree with you. We are trapped in our old set of beliefs. If only we can let go…

    • The first step is noticing what doesn’t work for us…what doesn’t feel right and sending it on its way. Thanks, Bing. I remember you from quite some time ago…nice to see you again.

  4. ah we are def conditioned in this life int he ways of our thinking….pathways of thought and emotion laid down by all the messages we hear and all the lives we connect with…it takes discernment…

  5. So hard to discipline one’s mind and to discern how! It is the mind itself making decisions and subject to compulsions. Great advice though. Thanks, Gayle, and thanks for kind words re drawings. K.

    • Yes, it is hard…where to begin?! And thank you, K…appreciate your input. And do really love your drawings. 🙂

      • Ha. Thanks much. I have one children’s book if you are ever interested which is all watercolors (and elephants). I should do others as I do enjoy it a great deal, but haven’t had the time. Take care. k.

        • Thanks for the reminder about your book, Karin. You know what…I’m going to get it for my granddaughter, Mira who is 17 months old today. She loves books! Am popping over to Amazon through your blog site link. I’ll let you know her review of it…smiles.

  6. Bombarded we are.. And it pulls us along… Good advice here.

  7. Very true! Hard to do, but so worth it if you can. I liked both the form and subject of this piece, Gayle. 🙂 Well said.
