Monster

He only showed up
after we girls went to bed.

We heard him outside…
always at the window.

The hedge and shrubs
would rattle loudly.

The windows…open to the
night air would be tapped.

A grunting and
shuffling could be heard.

Other times he was under
one of our beds.

There was always scratching,
snorting and bumping.

The mattresses would
heave and rumble.

We screamed…LOUD!

We YELLED for Mom!

She came storming into
the bedroom.  She knew who
the monster was.  She had
nabbed that rascal before.

RUSTY!!!  Are you
teasing your sisters again!!!

    • My younger sisters tormented me too. I was sandwiched in between two older brothers and three younger sisters! Enough to make me scream! 🙂 Thanks, Diane.

  12. Ha, this was delightful. Brothers definitely do enjoy giving their sisters a hard time, don’t they? Good thing there were two of you girls to form a united front.

(sorry I couldn’t do your challenge on Thursday. I was / still am not feeling well. It was a good one with lots of potential.)

    • Thank you, Mary. Yes, they sure do…that brother in particular was trouble to us. I know you are ill and never would expect you to join in especially with such a tricky one as those palindromes. I hope you feel better soon!

  13. Great poem to capture the antics of a brother who doesn’t get that scaring is only fun for the scare-er, not the scare-ee!

  20. Brilliant Poem, reminded me of my younger brother who would tease his/our younger sisters as I would rescue them as he would lock them in the pantry.. ‘Monster’ indeed lol… My Sister swears her claustrophobia was a result of his antics as a child..

Wishing you a beautiful Spring Gayle, I am enjoying the milder air we are having, Spring is trying its best to Spring!

      • Well, I finally saw this…forgive me for the delay in responding, MLM. And many thanks for nominating me for this prestigious award…it is always nice to be gifted in this way. I have been awarded this several times in the past and though very grateful for you thinking of me, I have decided to no longer accept awards but please know that this in no way diminishes your generosity and my gratitude.

    • Oh, you know so well of what I write, Sue. My brother would lock us in closets…small closets. I didn’t end up with claustrophobia though…that’s a miracle! Your poor sister..

I’m glad some warmth has finally made it your way, Sue. It’s downright hot here…but not as hot as it’s going to get this summer. Usually our springs are pretty shortlived and the weather goes straight to summertime.

      Love and hugs,
      Gayle

  21. Sorry not to have been by. Haven’t seen you for awhile so thought I should drop by. Like this. I use to make a running leap into bed, just in case whatever was underneath couldn’t catch me. Hope you are well.

    • You don’t need to apologize…I haven’t been around either…even at my own blog. Did post tonight for the short form. I do enjoy those. I used to make that same flying leap into bed to escape any under the bed ‘monsters’…and as you can see…there were some (one) lurking there at times! Thanks for coming by, Renee. I’m doing well…hope the same for you.

      • Still in the tired mode but realize it isn’t long term…the whole changing to a new system thing. I will be having lots of training coming up and on those days may not have energy to write but do look forward to one it is all done and then I can be here more. Nice to see you again.

        • Always nice to have you share with me, Renee. I hope the upcoming summer and training won’t be too draining for you. I seem to be mostly disconnected from blogging lately. Perhaps I need to just allow myself the time apart that I seem to be wanting. I feel torn though… It’s like I have one little toe dipped in the blogging world these days.

    • Thank you for your visit, White Pearl and your generous comments…I appreciate that. My brother was a REAL monster…I’m not kidding either. He tormented us sisters something awful when growing up. Happily we are good friends now…but really he was horrible!! 😉

I haven’t been on my blog for over a month but hope to return to writing at some point. Needed a break I guess…
