Nothing could have prepared me,
although I thought that I was ready.
I had months to peruse and ponder,
feathering my nest, feeling excited.
And I wasn’t sure, but I thought I could;
I was up for the challenge…baby on board!
Taking care, eating right, cradling
you carefully, everywhere day and night.
Some days held doubts, I was sure that I would fail,
who did I think I was to be taking on such a task?
No turning back, and I didn’t want to,
I was devoted to you and would do my best.

/ November 25, 2012So true… we can prepare all we want, but are never truly prepared for motherhood.

/ November 26, 2012This is delightful, Gayle, not only for the poem itself but for capturing pending motherhood with all the conflicting ebb and flow of confidence and questioning. That’s one part of life I wouldn’t mind reliving.
