Naani is one of India’s most popular Telugu poems. Naani means an expression of one and all.
It consists of 4 lines, the total lines consists of 20 to 25 syllables. The poem is not bounded to a particular subject. Generally it depends upon human relations and current statements. This poetry was introduced by one of the renowned Telugu poets Dr. N. Gopi, presently working as vice-chancellor to Telugu University, Andhra Pradesh.

Chanting universal sounds,
amethyst mala counting around,
chakras’ energy begins to spin.

Repeating the same
promise for over twenty years,
your words reach ears
too filled for more.
Amazingly cruel,
the ability to tear
down that which you
never encouraged.
With a handshake
and a pat on the back…
sharks circle, grins stretching
wide…reeling in their supporters.

I love this! All of them, except maybe the first, work together as awareness of the political ploys in the USA. Do we have more of this than elsewhere because we are “free”? As in this little poem I chose: we are free to stop listening–but what kind of freedom is that? The freedom lies higher up with those who can destroy what others build, with those who are sharks in human clothing.

I would imagine that being “free”…we sure are able to speak out (and use political ploys) …sometimes in endless droning…about whatever is annoying us. I get so tired of these political ads that go on and on and on…

So much so that I kinda get sick of it sometimes and wonder why I keep ruminating on and on… I don’t do this in “real” life. 🙂

but they are all lyrically interesting and even profound.

Still, you managed quite beautifully. I can tell, though, that the political season has you riled lately (me, too). It is good to have an outlet for the frustration of all of it!

/ August 27, 2012Thanks, Corina. Just looked up forms on Shadow Poetry and decided to give this one a try. Yes, that political stuff does rile me up and that’s why I try not to listen to it too much. But I am aware of the trials and hardships that our country is going through and it bugs the crap out of me that politicians have brought about a lot of it. Don’t get me started! Hehe… I suppose writing about it may help some…I don’t know though…
