Speak Up!

Standing mutely by while one day looking away,
the powers that be may strip our rights today.

It could come to pass that our speech may be axed,
if we hem and we haw and let our attention become lax.

Let’s form a united front and not let this happen,
suppression of our freedom will only serve to cheapen!

Blacked Out

  1. Yes! I signed a couple of different petitions and tried to help get the word out about these horrible acts. However, SOPA and PIPA were only the beginning. We have to stand strong because there is already more legislation like SOPA and PIPA drafted. It’s called the OPEN Act.

Thanks for helping to keep people aware! We’re going to have to stay vigilant until someone drafts a computer user’s “bill of rights”…

    • I signed some too and saw that Congress has backed off the SOPA and PIPA legislation only to draft the OPEN Act. Yep, I’m keeping my eyes on this. And it’s very cool that because so many people reacted strongly, they know that we are watching and will act again if we don’t like what that come up with.

And thank you for helping keep people aware too. We may have to hit the streets…I’m ready…come with me! 🙂

      • If I wasn’t afraid of losing my job, I would be out there marching already! If it comes to it, we may ALL have to hit the streets, jobs or not. It *feels* like the undercurrents of a coming revolution. That may sound paranoid, or like some conspiracy theory, but there will come a breaking point and Americans will rise up to break the hand of tyranny. We’re already seeing it with Occupy. Not being melodramatic, either, because enough people are seeing the scare tactics and Big Brother intrusions for what they are…this country was founded by revolution, you better believe that there are still enough people in the know who have no problem doing it again! 🙂

        • See, that ticks me off too…that you have to be afraid of losing your job by expressing your opinion…or taking action that you see fit. Orlando “powers that be” chased out the Occupiers here. They actually jailed one of the members for chalking on the sidewalk…nothing obscene mind you…something that any six year old could be scribbling on the pavement. We’re in the Dark Ages around here. 😦

Didn’t we witness what revolution did in other countries recently? No, I feel that rumbling undercurrent too, Corina..not paranoid thinking at all. We’re just seeing the tip of the ice burg as to the shenanigans of our government officials and if we have to hit the streets to get the message across that we’re unhappy, then so be it. Thanks for a great dialogue here! 🙂

  2. They already can use whatever powers they want to black out sites if they wish too. Slowly but surely under the guise of provention against terrorism your/our freedom is being slowly and underhandly taken away in may aspects of daily life. You just need to see how many cameras there are everywhere you go watching you to know it is real.

    • I totally agree with what you’ve said here. There are things going on to chip away at our freedom under the guise of all kinds of things “that are for our good”.

  3. Beautifully said!

  4. It worked, you know. The bill was killed. YIPPEE for Internet activism!

    • Yes, I heard…put a link up saying that it had. Yay!! I was thrilled that so many took action…that’s the way it’s supposed to work. We say what we want or don’t want and our government follows accordingly!

  5. thanks for the ping… now we must all remain diligent and vigilant… my US senators and US congressperson are in my contacts and have been for sometime… of course, if they’re so deep into someone’s pockets, we don’t have a chance (I don’t think mine are)… but I am an optimist and I believe we can create change… the internet, so far, is one of the few places where we, you and I, still have a voice…

    • You’re welcome…thanks for joining in on the campaign, Janet. I was so happy for the response out there. I believe we can create change too but I don’t have much faith in my state’s representatives or our nation’s for that matter. But I’ll keep giving my opinion as long as I can.

  7. i so very much agree with you. we let our rights snatched away from us- we should be vocal and cautious about these pretexts.

    love and hugs.

    • Most people know that if a politician is moving his lips…well, not much good is being done… I’m quite skeptical and cautious.

      Love and hugs…
