I Align Within

Quiet stillness, I align within, manifesting calm descends;
O awareness rising slowly, inscrutable love now ascends.
This mountain glade does inspire,
Lifting my soul ever higher.
     Nature’s essence, a soothing transcend.

Find your core, your soul’s content,
Through intervals of malcontent,
A state of lenity you can acquire;
     Quiet stillness, I align within.

Take gentle grasp of ego’s lament
Stare it down ’til its hold relents.
So little work it does require,
To gain some peace from self’s desire,
Watch it dissolve by your intent.
     Quiet stillness, I align within.

  1. A beautiful, beautiful Rondeau. The skill of this is worth the reading. Repeating “Quiet stillness, I align within” is effective in making the poem a meditation on the self and how peace can be found inside us all.

    • This was my first attempt of a Rondeau. A meditative feeling came to me that seemed appropriate for the style. Thanks so much for sharing a lovely comment with me, Thomas–I appreciate it.

  2. I love this! To me, the last stanza is particularly beautiful.

  3. this felt like a fresh breath…or a serene sigh…nice flow

  4. Very beautiful – makes me think of a Solstice meditation – union with our higher self. I like this very much, Bodhirose!

    • Many times my “yogini” self comes through in my writing. I’ve spent many a summer and winter solstices in group meditation–very powerful!

      I’m glad you liked this, Betty. Thank you.

  5. what an amazing poem gayle, pouring so much beauty in a form poem is not an easy game.

    • My first Rondeau, Trisha. I believe you have written in this form too. You have gone on to write so many now. That’s wonderful…

      Thanks so much for the generous compliment.

  6. I read this last night right before I fell asleep and it is the most amazing meditation I have seen in a long time. So much so that I am going to print it out and stick it inside my meditation/prayer book. Hey, it just started snowing on your blog. How cool! Thank you.

    • What an honor, Sheila, that you would want to keep this poem nearby. Those countless hours of meditation show up often in my writing! Thank you for a lovely, meaningful compliment.

      WordPress has an application for turning on “snow” during the holidays–it’s the closest that I will come to it…

  7. This poem could have been written centuries ago. It has that feel…
