Doomed from the Start

Were we doomed from the start?

Women were to be feared and thus

conquered and held under strict control.

After all, it was we who thoughtlessly

went against God’s commandment

not to eat from The Tree of Knowledge.

We’re responsible for the downfall of mankind–

opening the gateway to sin and hell.

All from that simple first act of giving

into temptation, we set our destiny.

Is this the reason for man’s dominion

over us–we needing their guidance?

Has the world’s karma been

carried on the backs of sinful women

since that fateful day in the garden?

Temptresses!

When will we have finished paying off

this debt so the world can once again

abide in a state of love and innocence?

But wait, doesn’t our partner in

crime have to do some time?

Your turn!

  2. Ah, Original Sin. If this isn’t proof that the Bible was written by men, I don’t know what is. Women used to be worshiped for the mystical power of giving birth. Christianity put an end to that and put women in their place–under the rule of men. (I used to teach Women’s Studies, so I could go on and on about this.)

Suffice it to say that your poem is spot-on and perfectly executed. Great work!

  7. I like this poem, Gayle. I think about this topic from time to time. I think I must have something of Eve in me as knowledge still outweighs the lack of it , for me. If knowledge is evil, it makes me sad.

  11. “History is written by the winners.” Never more true than the meetings at Nicea, where the “final” version of the Bible was approved (throwing out the Gospel of Mary Magdalene, also of Thomas – who spoke of Mary M. being the first real teacher of the disciples after Jesus’ death). Men in skirts deciding that we have cramps because we are all to blame? Excuse me? At least Eve talked it over with the Trickster. Adam just said, “Sure, gimme a bite” and didn’t think twice. So much for biblical literalism. Pastor’s wife here, and our Bible studies ROCK! ha ha, Amy

    • There’s a lot of controversy surrounding the Bible–who wrote it–were certain references removed to better keep control over people and their beliefs, etc.

Is poor “Adam” just an innocent victim in this whole thing? Did Eve hold him down and shove that apple down his throat? I think not…

      Rock on, Amy! xoxo

  12. Yes, Genesis blames male violence on female “temptation”…that’s the basic mindset of an abuser…blame the victim…

  13. for how long will women believe in those control methods? everyone knows who ate the apple in reality 🙂

women for very rational reasons are timid, a tendency they should throw away.

    • We women here in the U.S. seem to be making solid strides. It’s been a long time coming. Now we are offering support to our sister-friends from around the world to have their freedom.
