The layers are peeling

And my heart is healing

Because I’m willing to look

Unwavering at what’s afoot

My eyes are unflinching

I won’t look away

At even the darkest, shadowy

Places within

Healing takes place

When I acknowledge the truth

No pretending what I’m not

But embracing the facts

No deceiving myself

Shine a light on it all

The only way to peace

Is to live honestly

  1. This is so true, Gayle. Before the healing can begin we have to peel away the layers and reveal the tender skin under the scars. I think this is so deeply profound. I really love the image as well. It is perfect for your poem.

Thank you for sharing this very insightful poem.

    • Yes, we do. And we have to be courageous and face what’s there or we can stay stuck. I don’t want to be stuck.

So very glad you enjoyed this and saw the truth in it, Izzy.

      Hugs and love…

Gayle—though the figure looks like one of the Hindu deities your words smack of Buddha.

Do you know why Buddha is so—well big tummy?

I will tell you in e mail

love the words of hope—“When I acknowledge the truth” Are you sure you are not a Buddhist?

    love & hugs

    • Jaye, that is a reclining Buddha in that photo.

I have been studying and practicing some aspects of Buddhism for many years–I love the Buddha! I have practiced vipassana (mindful) meditation for many years. I consider myself very eclectic in my spiritual life though and embrace so many teachings.

      Love and hugs,

Oh no! My mother would slap me for not recognizing him—but he is so thin.
Will run off e mail now

        love Jaye xo

  3. Impeccably stated 🙂

  4. this is beautiful gayle, very sweet, honest and wise words.

  5. I came to read you tonight (2.00am) because I feel distressed!
    Reasons- very predicable.. 🙂

This particular seems to be put up esp for the purpose. I feel at peace.
Isn’t this strange how I am typing a few keys to send you a note- I mean with these words typed out here; you’ll know I wanted to reach out to you. I am getting drawn to the cyber miracle more n more with each passing day. Maybe cyber space is the ether..

Sending you very many hugs xoxox
    Much Love for a Sunday ♥ ♥ ♥

    • Sorry you are feeling distressed this early morning, Olivia. Wish I could give you a warm hug and tell you it will be OK. I’m glad this poem brought you some peace. Maybe it was written for your benefit–I think it was. I feel you reaching out and I am reaching back–my heart is feeling yours. Love has traveled there in a split second!

Perhaps you can go back to sleep now and rest easier.

Much love and peace for you,
      Gayle xoxo ♥

  6. Don’t know how I missed this, but I’m glad that I found it. What truth is contained here and what courage you have to face life this way. Wise and honest and well done. A dear photo to go with. Lovely and bracing for this mid-Saturday quick trip online before chores. Well done and thank you.

    Hugs! Happy Saturday …

  7. I try–no use putting it off!

    Happy Saturday–night! xoxo

  8. A very nice piece, such truth behinds your words!

  9. some great truth in here…living honestly is the way to peace and i am happy for the acknowledged healing…

  10. Agree… thanks for the meaningful words ~

  11. It’s wonderful to be able to acknowledge that you need to peel away the layers and expose the pain to the light and air to begin the healing.
Yes, we have to be honest with ourselves.
    Lovely, heartfelt prose.

  12. Lovely sentiments

  13. Lovely sentiment– wondering why you changed from rhymed verse to free partway through?

    • I don’t have a clue! Because I’m a very inexperienced writer–that’s my only excuse. I need to pay attention more to what I’m doing. 🙂

  14. there is great insight to this, I think it can be harder at times to be honest with yourself than with others.

  15. Truth at its core expressed beautifully ~ Rose
