Spring has Sprung

I could tell spring had sprung,

the lizards and frogs have thawed.

And the crickets have begun their

chirping in the early evening hours.

Little bits of greenery have sprouted

from the surrounding trees and flowers

which just weeks earlier were barren and

appearing done in by the freeze.

I’ve even discovered a chrysalis of

the beautiful Monarch butterfly which had

attached itself to the garden’s patch

of scraggly, lanky milkweed.

The lantana is an early bloomer and

has burst forth with multi-colored hues.

A morning mockingbird was perched on it

taking a break from singing the blues.

It’s a time of new beginnings even

from seeming death–life springs

eternal from the sacred and fertile earth.

  1. Its great to see not only us humans, but even the animals and plant life enjoying the wonderful Springtime!

  2. For us it’s always spring, or perhaps summer, because 99% of the time it feels that way.

    • I suppose our Florida winter is more like most of the country’s spring time. Our summers are pretty much broiling and quite lengthy. If you don’t mind me asking–what part of the world are you from that has this constant spring/summer weather?

      • Right next door to Florida, the Bahamas.

I must say this morning when I woke up and went outside, it was very chilly for this time of the year. No complaints from me. 🙂

      • Oh, you’re a very close neighbor. Many years ago I took an overnight sailing trip to Bimini from Miami where I once lived. Closest I’ve ever gotten to the main island of the Bahamas.

        Enjoy the coolness!

  3. We’ve been hearing crickets and mockingbirds, too, but when we get back to Reno we’ll have to face winter again! I love all the attention to details I find in this poem. Fills me with hope. Happy spring and thanks for joining up.

    • Oh, that must be kind of tough to go back to the chilling cold again. But at least you’ve had a wonderful several weeks in the more temperate weather.

Spring time feels me with hope too. Happy spring, Victoria!

  4. What a lovely evocative poem … And a fine response to Victoria’s prompt.

Nice antidote to our rain here. Thank you! 🙂

    • Thanks so much, Jamie. We badly need some rain here. We are having quite an arid time right now with even some fires breaking out.

  5. I see spring here.
    awesome piece…

  6. simply splendid gayle, you all must be relishing spring now.

    • The days are starting to warm up close to summer time temperatures. But the nights are still remaining cooler–still nice.

I saw a comment left by you on someone else’s blog today with your name as “Trishaj”. Left me wondering about that…

      • mistyping 🙂
i am typing and deleting the j quite regularly. actually i have to shift my keyboard so much that i am forgetting the normal positioning of hands on them.

      • Oh, keyboard still driving you crazy…

      • no not the keyboard, its perrrrrrrfectly fine the kitties are attracted to it. the way the things are moving sooner or later they will both move out 🙂 that will make me very glad for sure.

      • Ready to be free of the responsibility of kitties? How about if they come and visit you now and then?

      • i really dont feel very keen to have them with that psychopath living in neighbourhood.

the more infrequent they will become the less will be the emotional attachment, right?

if they run away completely then they will be alive wherever they will be, so thats the thing counts to me. their staying alive.

i am happy that they are distancing themselves- that psychopath is the only reason behind this happiness.

      • I understand completely what you are saying. You are so right–their being alive is what is important. I am hoping that this will be the case. The further away they are from this psychopath the better.

And it will help you breathe easier–and me too.

      • yes. because the way they killed the first one is beyond my imaginations, they can do it again, lure the mute creature into their house and kill it- that was some thing really strange for me to believe, i still cant believe a normal human being can do any thing like that.

      • You made a good point here, Trisha–these people are not “normal” in any way, shape or form!

Are killing of humans next? I believe those types of people are capable of murdering people too–just one step away… Please keep yourself safe!

  7. happy new year
I hope the new year will be cheerier than the old with best wishes

  8. YES … Spring is in the Air in Florida. We are experiencing what others are dreaming of. I cannot stress how fortunate we are to be here in Paradise. You did a fine job of stating it in this poem. You are feeling the love of nature.

    • We are fortunate to be here. I count my blessings every time I hear of those terrific snowstorms and blizzards that wreak havoc every winter.

My heart opens wide to the nature around me.

  9. Beautiful description of spring 🙂 Vivid imagery. Liked the ‘lantana bursting forth in multicolored hues’. Going through your lines again and again, one gets a feeling that even fresh hope springs when Spring knocks on the door.

    • I think hope springs anew every spring too. It does for me anyway. 🙂

Thanks for such a nice comment and visit for me today.

  10. Colorful image- I mean your words!
This was such a poetic treat- vivid n lovely.. 😀

    Many Hugs xoxox
