The Pistol

Glock 26

Image via Wikipedia

I groggily awakened and at once became aware of a dim, glow under the closed door coming from the hallway.  Hushed, muffled mumblings brought me to alertness.  My husband was away on business and I was alone–or so I thought.

Panic now washed over me.  I reached for the phone to dial 911 and simultaneously opened the drawer of the table next to the bed and slid my hand inside and around the handle of the Glock 26.

Soon a commotion outside the door told me the police had arrived and I was safe.

The pistol remained unused.

Flash Fiction of 100 words.  No, I know nothing about guns–it’s just a story.

  1. well plotted story,

    Glad it is a fiction.
    way to go.

  2. Really cool, this is like the haiku of short stories!

  3. fantastic story. wonderfully crafted.

  4. A question I had asked someone before was, “Would they be able to do something that they hate doing in order to stay alive?”

    I don’t like guns.

I love the anticipatory build up.

    • I don’t like guns either but they are a big part of our society–sad to say.

I think if someone was coming at me meaning me great bodily harm or death and I had a gun in my hand, I would use it to stop them. Hopefully, just stop them and not kill. Killing would be a last resort.

I’m glad you liked my little story–thank you.

  5. Phew! Nice little mystery. I was with you all the way. Engaging.

  6. This was an exciting story to read. I love the fear that came across and, then, the relief of being safe again. I agree with you about having to protect yourself and your home. When it’s time, you have to do what has to be done to protect yourselve from an intruder. All logic of what is moral would go out the window.

A lot said in a small amount of words Godo job, Gayle.
    Namaste, Isadora

    • It’s a fun challenge to write a whole little story in just 100 words. Thank you for enjoying this, Isadora.
