The History of the Parliament of World’s Religions

My two daughters were fortunate enough to be able to attend the Parliament of the World’s Religions that was held in Barcelona, Spain in 2004.  Here is a short video that tells the history of this important gathering between religious communities.

  1. I am not a religious person, but this is a wonderful thing as long as there is peace and indifferance. Sharing ideas and learning from each other will make for better relations.

    • Well, like it said in the beginning of the video–there won’t be peace unless we can bring peace between the religions of the world.

I’m more of a spiritually eclectic person. I think I believe in a little bit of everything!

  2. Yes! I love this. So many faces of people I love and admire. It’s wonderful. And then of course the first with Vivikenanda and his little well. And so interesting that he was part of that, we all know the story, and yet Indians weren’t allowed in the U.S. then … not until 1960, I think.

Lovely. Kudos to you, Gayle, for posting it. And how supremely wonderful that your girls could go.

I could watch this forever. 😀

    • I love this too. I love seeing all the different people represented–even the Native Americans.

I think you’re forgetting that Paramahansa Yogananda came here in 1920 and started his Self-Realization Fellowship organization. I know his story so well from his famous autobiography and one of my brothers has been his devotee most of his adult life. Maybe you’re saying Indians in general weren’t allowed in the U.S. until much later–I didn’t know that.

I think I’ll watch it again right now! 🙂
