Lacework

The lacework of society’s

decadence has cultivated the

volcanic pace of decline.

Extend the goblet of paradise.

  1. No truer words said! this is odd though…you really should read what I wrote then read Luke Prater’s as well…they all have similar vibes! I had no idea what Victoria’s prompt was I just wrote mine a few days ago and set it aside until I had time to edit. Masterful piece Gayle!

  4. Thanks for asking, Trisha. Slept better last night–less coughing but had a low grade temperature for part of the last two days. My whole rib cage is sore from coughing so much—ow! It’s just going to take a little time.

    • I know how horribly painful coughing is. you know keeping a clove in your mouth and slowly sucking its juice- just nibbling and sucking the juice works wonder against cough?

      • I had no idea about that cough remedy–will have to try it. I don’t know if I have any cloves or not in the kitchen. Cough has almost gone now. I think this cold is almost through with me. Could have been a lot worse and at least this time I didn’t get laryngitis and lose my voice. 🙂

        Thanks for caring.

      • That is an added bonus that there are no side effects. I try to avoid most cold medications, they can make me feel “weird”. I used my neti pot to clean out my nasal passages and that really helped too. Some nice warm, salt water up my nose–really helps a lot. 🙂

      • Sometimes I will use a nasal spray to open my nose up just at night so I can sleep. I am miserable when I can’t sleep at night with a stuffy nose. 😦

Almost all better now though. 🙂

      • i hate taking medicine and my cold used to go straight to the lungs and cause sleepless nights.

they were horrible. i had to sit straight all through the night 😦

      • Oh, that’s awful when it settles in your chest. Then you can be susceptible to bronchitis and pneumonia–makes it hard to breathe. Bless your heart–sitting up all night.

Mine seem to go to the throat. I used to get strep throat a lot when a child and feel very ill–but haven’t had that in years. I’m also prone to getting laryngitis.

      • i had a fixed pattern, it started with sneezing, then tonsillitis, next cough and finally the whole cough used to choke the lungs.

        it was a routine affair.

  5. Good job, Gayle. It reminds me of Pompei or Stabiano where the Roman senators had their Villas and baths and orgies. Well done, my friend. Hope you’re feeling better. Those things just seem to hang on. Thanks for giving the prompt a try.

  6. Thank you, Victoria. Yes, it came out describing “decadence” pretty well–but with some hope tacked on the end!

I think I’m on the upswing–I made myself look presentable today instead of laying around in my pajamas! 🙂

  7. Nice work. A lot packed into just four lines – great word economy. I believe our civilisation is on the decline now… many will deny it, of course… the Romans did too. I’ve written quite a lot about the topic myself.

    Enjoyed this

    • Thanks so much, Luke. Used Victoria’s Monday Morning Writing Prompt to write this. It’s an interesting process.

Our civilization appears to be on the decline to me too. I wonder sometimes where it’s all going to end up…

      Peace,
      Gayle

I feel like giving a toast
    and quoting Jim Morrison.

    • I think you should toast Jim Morrison, UT, our governor here in Florida just gave him an official “pardon” for his alleged action of exposing himself during one of his concerts in Miami in 1969. It never was proven that he had committed the act–many people there said it never happened–but he was busted anyway.

Don’t drink from that “goblet of paradise” too many times! 🙂

I think Victoria is right–your subconscious kind of takes over when you’re choosing the words–to allow a subject to appear.

      • I think I’m going to try it myself. Believe it or not a do not have a hard copy of a dictionary. I have electronic only!!!! Sign of the times. Have to get to a used bookstore to buy one.

I was at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco all day today. I thought of you. Some of the most fabulous Quan Yin’s I’ve ever seen. Check these out. We didn’t take them. Found them on line at flicker. It should open on the page where the museum photos are. Enjoy.

  10. I own a hard copy dictionary and probably use my online resources more than I do it but it’s nice to have one I have to admit.

Thanks for thinking of me today–I could have spent all day there too. Right up my alley! The porcelain Quan Yin was gorgeous–simply exquisite. I enjoyed seeing the wonderful photos of the museum pieces–thanks so much for sharing with me, Jamie.
