My mala has one hundred and eight beads.
It keeps count as I chant–
Through my fingers it passes.
A cool little tool,
It helps bring me ease.
Mentally I intone–Om.

/ October 31, 2010Oh how well you succeeded. And I agree about your Mala. I love repetitive prayer–sometimes a rosary the way I was taught, sometimes more along the lines of Eastern spiritual traditions, lately using the Hebrew Aleph Beit. Peaceful. So glad you wrote this.

/ October 31, 2010I love repetitive prayer/chanting too–focuses the mind on the positive doesn’t it. Thanks for the nice comment here and giving me the inspiration to try this.
Fun!

/ November 2, 2010Yes, Hindus and other religions use 108 beaded malas for counting as they pray/recite chanting. It is a very auspicious number in some cultures. Or a wrist mala will sometimes be made of 27 or 54 beads which are a derivative of 108.
