Gratitude Lantern; An Acrostic

On Thanksgiving this year, after dinner with my family, I joined my niece at her home for dessert. As night came, some guests gathered in her backyard and had an impromptu drumming session around a glowing fire.  Later, she offered the opportunity for us to write what we were thankful for on a “gratitude lantern”.  She would then light the paper lamp and send it into the sky along with our gratitude. I wrote one word…Mira.  Ours was just the one lantern, but I found photos of when thousands were lit and set sailing.  My niece also did a similar thing to celebrate the last New Year.

Giving thanks this year, but especially for you;
Relatives and friends join together
All bringing good will and love for each other.
Today was different than so many others,
It included you, an addition to our world.
Tiny, but here, with full-fledged awareness
Urging us listen as you learn to utter.
Delighted, we focus, hanging on each coo.
Engaged, connected, our spirits merging.

Let us share and pen our thanks,
Annointing our hearts with gratitude.
Night arrives, the day is done,
Tablas beat an ancient tune.
Emitting a glow as it ascends,
Reminding us of what is dear,
New grace as our light lifts to the sky.

Haiku–An Acrostic

Hear nature’s essence
And laud succinctly.
Intrinsically…
Kudos, clarity,
Unite syllables.

Travels In My Mind (an Acrostic)

Taking the first thought out, I go with it as far as I’m able–winging amongst the ethers;
Reminding myself that there are no unauthorized areas that I’m unable to explore.
Asleep, I astral travel, unfettered by time or space.
Veering off into the causal planes, I visit the highest spiritual spheres where Masters of
Everything reside continuing their teachings and assisting all beings to merge in love.

Love or peace, that place within that holds the space of everlasting pure tranquility.
Senses expand and dissolve as I move beyond the confines of the ego.

It dwells inside, our Buddha nature, as the world spins around us in chaos and anarchy;
Nothing can disturb its stability and steadfast oneness and my mind rests in this truth.

Many paths we can journey.  Take your pick–mix them up–enjoy the ride.
You’re in command of your flow’s direction.

Moving at the speed of light, I project my way to higher realms and see what IS.
Immobile I sit in this space while my mind’s intention moves me away from my body.
Nothing inhibits me, nothing obscures my sight.   I merge with the sound current and
Delight in the truth, the light, the love, the peaceful perfection of the no-self.

LISTENING: An Acrostic

Julian Treasure on Ted.com on listening:

Laudable is he who can listen with full attention.

Intrinsic is the need to connect with one another;

Sit in considerate silence when each other speaks.

Take the time to pay heed to surrounding sounds,

Engaging in active concentration and awareness while

Nurturing yourself in practicing absorbed interest.

Indulge in the meditation of the resonance that IS,

Nourishing mindfulness that supports your being and

Garners conscious discernment along the way.

NIGHTFALL

Nightfall arrives swiftly

Ianthine shades the horizon

Ghostly duskiness turns pitchy dark

Hypnotic visions permeate my mind

Trees take on silhouettes of claw-like specters

Fallen leaves blow about in tight whirlwinds

Alive come mysterious beings

Lingering here and there in the shadows

Lurking and flittering until the first dim light of dawn
