Nothing…yet

no, really, I’ve tried,
nothing appeared,
my brain feels dry,
a bit dusty inside
not even a small
stone can rattle out

nothing of nature,
nothing with wings,
nothing flowering,
nothing that sings,

no laughter,
or cheer,
happened to me

but one thing did
but I can’t tell you
yet…it’s a secret
…you’ll have to wait

Reprieve

Sitting on the back, screened-in porch,
the afternoon shadows were lengthening
as the overhead fan droned on while I read.
Suddenly, a scrambling racket was heard
crashing down the old palm.
A hawk had grabbed a squirrel
and had pinned him to the ground.
Spying me, he released his prey
and fled…the squirrel, a reprieve.

Morning Bath

Photo:  Google Images

Making the rounds,
watering the outdoor plants
on the patio; I moved
down the steps and
out into the back yard.

Aiming the spray at the
lace-flowered, pink Crepe Myrtle,
I noticed a red dart come into
my line of vision from the left
…a cardinal decided to allow me
in assisting his Saturday, morning bath.

Monarch

Her passing came as a shock to us all.  She had only been diagnosed three months before; a virulent cancer had taken her quickly.

She was known for her love of butterflies and could readily identify many that were found around her home.  Later, at her outdoor memorial, a large Monarch flitted over our heads.

Anniversary

The celebration put on by their families was stupendous.  They had been married twenty-five years.  The party went on well into the evening with festive food, drink, conversation and dancing.  As the guests finally departed for the night, they each retired to separate bedrooms and grabbing their cell phones, made calls to their respective lovers.

Love Resumed

They were teenagers when they had last been lovers.  A chance meeting at an art gallery rekindled their attraction for one another.  They were both free and decided to resume where they had left off thirty years prior.  Now there were no overly protective parents to put out the smoldering embers that once again ignited.

Tame Wild Birds

On our way to Lake Kissimmee State Park, we were hoping to have an encounter with our favorite bird, the Florida Scrub Jay.  These wild birds were tame!  They would fly to our outstretched palms piled with peanuts if we stayed still long enough.  We then could get a personal and close-up view of them.

Run!

The wind picked up.  Far off in the distance, dark, ominous clouds were quickly moving toward us.  We hurried to gather our things off the beach and make it to the car before the first, large splats of rain were felt.  A quick flash outlined us against the black sky…a sharp crack sent us running.

Good Morning…

Sita is always right there at my door as it opens in the morning.  She has her routine…greet me with a full-body rub against my legs and then a purposeful jaunt to the kitchen…breakfast time!  I’m always happy to see her…and offer her a few loving words and a scratch on her bunny-soft, tabby head.

Ninja

His Ninja gleamed in the sun.  He spent hours working on it to make it run as fast and smooth as possible.  Weekends, he could be found racing along the long, curving,  country roads with his buddies.  One day a spit of wet sand caught his tire…months of recuperation from broken bones.

Ninja

My ex-husband was an avid motorcycle rider and racer.  He took a few spills during his riding career and ended up with broken bones on occasion…luckily nothing worse.  I went riding with him many times on his Kawasaki Ninja!
