Crystalline charms sway,
suspended by delicate
strands of iciness,
dotting the trees with an
enchanted dusting of
winter’s enveloping purity.
The earth lies frozen, dormant and at rest.
Peacefully it has eased to a slow, even
breath as it embarks on its hibernation,
beginning its much-needed sabbatical
beneath its still, flurry-laden blanket.
The lower light of the days of solstice
catch the glinting snow and the crystal
amulets lain within the tree’s branches,
and multi-colored prisms flicker and flash,
the sun creating sparkling jewels.
All is felt by the wind, gently now
at morning’s first glow. Its soft brush
moves the tree’s branches disturbing
the fragile creations–some fracture and
fall upon the earth’s mantle that in
this moment begins to melt.

/ November 26, 2011This is a beautiful poem. It sings with winter storms and the magic of snow on the ground. This morning in New Mexico we woke to the sight of Mount Taylor, not far from our house, shining with its white peak into a cloudless blue sky. Your poem makes me look forward to the winter that is just starting.
Bodhirose
